Hollywood's Best Buds

By Emily Feimster

Move over, ladies! When the guys are tired of shopping for clothes or picking out china, they're ready for some male bonding and who better to call than their best friends? Be it at the baseball park, the local bar, or some Hollywood hotspot, these famous male celebrities can't help but be glad to get a break. After all, a night out with the boys never hurt! Well, unless you're hanging out with Christian Slater. So just who are these best buds? Take a look and find out!

Two peas in a pod as of late have been Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong, who are both from Texas and share a love for the Longhorns. That's not all they share a love for - the hunks can often be spotted talking up the ladies at various clubs around Hollywood with their other good friend, Jake Gyllenhaal, in tow. And to keep up their ripped physiques, McConaughey and Armstrong have started training together. Not a week goes by that they haven't been pictured in a magazine - sans their shirts, of course - running and biking along the beach. Gee, rough life!

Maybe these pals could learn to use their friendship for good as have longtime friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Ever since winning an Oscar for their screenplay, "Good Will Hunting," the fellow Bostonians have worked hard to help other up and coming screenwriters land their own big break. In 2000, they founded "Project Greenlight" through their production company LivePlanet to find and fund worthwhile film projects from novice filmmakers. The televised documentary about the making of the film projects had twice been nominated for an Emmy before recently getting the axe.

However, when it comes to letting his hair down, Damon finds good company in his "Ocean's Eleven" co-stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney. Yes, we've all been blessed enough to see pictures of the trio hanging out shirtless on some yacht near Clooney's villa in Lake Como, Italy. But before Damon joined the fun, Clooney and Pitt had long shared a close friendship, which has involved a number of endearing pranks. In fact, prior to the start of "Ocean's Twelve" in Italy, Pitt crafted a mock call sheet in Italian, which advised the crew that they should, at Clooney's insistence, refer to him only by his character name.

Damon told reporters of the incident, "For a month, everyone on the crew would say 'Good morning, Mr. Ocean,' and 'Yes, Mr. Ocean,' until George finally figured it out." As part of his retaliation, Clooney snuck heavy-duty weights into Pitt's prop luggage for a scene that required him to grab his bags and board a train in one fluid movement. Yes, boys will be boys!

Some other friends, who have long enjoyed the limelight together, are Leonard DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. They met as young boys when they were both auditioning for the TV series "Parenthood." Although they are both grown up and involved in relationships, the pair can often be seen side by side at a Lakers game, club, or concert.

Superstar comedians Steve Harvey and Cedric "The Entertainer" portrayed best friends on the sitcom, "The Steve Harvey Show," and are actually best friends in real life. They have been tight buddies since 1989. Harvey said of their friendship, "It's mostly respect. There's nothing I can't go to Cedric to ask him, and there's nothing he can't come to ask me. There's nothing he can tell me that I would spill. It's a trust factor and not just because we made a lot of money together. It's a trust factor as far as men go. We have that mutual respect for each other."

Then there are those guys who got close as a result of working on the same projects together. Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama, and Danny Masterson became inseparable after meeting on the set of "That 70's Show." Though the show has since been cancelled and Kutcher is acting all grown up now that he's with the much older Demi Moore, the guys still make time for each other and even own part of the Los Angeles restaurant, Dolce, together. "I talk with them every day," Valderrama told us of himself and his former co-stars. "Every single one of us emails each other on our Sidekicks and we talk to each other on the phone all the time." Demi's gotta love that!

Of course there are the "Scrubs" stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison, who are rarely seen in public without the other. Tom Hanks and Ron Howard share a close friendship after 20 years of movie making together. Comedian Adam Sandler is constantly blurring the line between work and friendship as he has made a number of films with his former "Saturday Night Live" co-stars and best buds David Spade, Rob Schneider, Kevin Nealon, and Tim Meadows. The same goes for Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, and Vince Vaughn.

In the end, the women may come and go, the movies may bomb at the box office, the money may even disappear, but the one thing these guys can always rely on are their friends.
