Even as stories were breaking Friday that claimed Ben Affleck was the part of Bennifer responsible for calling off this weekend's Big Wedding, agents around Hollywood were chortling over a casting notice for Ben's "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" movie. The Disney picture, set to roll in mid November, will have Affleck as a fashion photographer "with commitment issues," as the unofficial synopsis puts it.
In fact, according to sources who have read the script, the character just hates the thought of marriage. He's a womanizer who only reluctantly attends his own brother's wedding, then manages to spoil the day by behaving like a jerk.
That night, he's visited by three spirits, ala the Charles Dickins classic Christmas Carol. Only in this case, the first is the ghost of girlfriends past - in the form of a high school girl who thought that, since she'd made out with Ben's character at a party, they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
The second, the ghost of girlfriends present, will be a furious vision who gives him what-for for all his heartless treatment of women, including dumping on him a load of tear-stained Kleenex and condoms (sort of like Jacob Marley and the chains he's forged in life, but not quite).
And the future -- it has to do with a woman he's been friends with since childhood, the key leading lady role.
"Is this something for Jennifer to do?" asks one industry wag -- a line getting repeated, and repeated.
