Nickelodeon's newest young star, James Maslow, says he's glad his "Big Time Rush" series has an upbeat outlook.
"I think the really cool thing about this show is that it brings such a positive message. A lot of teen shows deal with the drama and the dark side of all of that. We provide a show that allows everyone to watch and forget about all of the bad things in the world and just have fun," he explains.
"Seeing people who now know you and like what you do is a huge encouragement to keep working hard. It's very, very surreal. I hope that feeling never goes away."
The 19-year-old hottie feels as
if he's been preparing for his role -- as one of four best friends who unexpectedly fall into pop stardom -- almost as long a he can remember. He just didn't know it.
"I've been singing and studying music my whole life. I got my start singing in choirs when I was six years old," he recounts. "My mom dropped me off at church choir without even asking me. I hated it for the first two weeks, but something happened a few weeks later and I fell in love with it. That led to working with the San Diego Opera and then in 8th grade, I decided to go to a performing arts school. The rest of high school, I studied musical theater, so this show is a perfect fit."
