CELEB SCENE: Star Chatter a la Teen Choice
Yep, the 2009 Teen Choice Awards turned out to be very talk-worthy -- both behind the scenes at the event and at homes across the land -- with top topics including:

How Miley Cyrus' performance gave more evidence that the musically gifted teen is heading down sleaze road with -- why? -- a pole dancing moment configured into her number and those oh-so-tight booty shorts. With a record-breaking six Teen Choice Awards this year alone, a hit movie, a hit series, hit records and her new Nicholas Sparks film in the can, she doesn't have to get all skanky to be successful, but we've said this time and again before, so obviously she's not listening.

How Kathy Griffin came in with the OMG date of the evening, showing up with Bristol Palin's 19-year-old baby daddy. On the red carpet, which was actually green artificial turf, it was Kathy who did all the talking, while her reality show star-wannabe "boyfriend" Levi Johnston smiled hard and tried to look like he belonged.

How the Jonas Brothers won five TCAs, proved they could host the show and be kinda cute about it, in their Jonas-way -- and then after the taping, go from the Gibson Amphitheater at Universal Studios to the Staples Center across town and perform the third concert in their three-day stand at the venue. Talk about a full day! Can't help thinking of Nick's touching number, "A Little Bit Longer," when he segues from the song to talk to concert crowds about how his world was turned upside down by his diabetes diagnosis, and how he was determined it wouldn't slow him down.

How "Twilight" picked up 11 wins out of 12 nominations -- the one loss attributable to the fact that two of its nominees were in the same category.

Also having a noteworthy weekend, presenter Marlon Wayans was enjoying the heck out of news that his "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" was tops at the box office, with a strong $56.2 million opening. On his way into the awards, Marlon told us the "G.I. Joe" team had a party Saturday night -- "a short victory celebration like they do in the NBA. Bring out the champagne, pop the bottles, enjoy yourself and then back to work," he said.

Regarding more "Joes," Marlon noted, "If it makes money, there will be a sequel. And if you know anything about Hollywood, there'll be a sequel and a sequel and a sequel."

Wayans is keeping up his buff look now. He says, "I've got to work out. I'm into the action thing now -- can't be crack weight any more. I have to look like a man." Make that a he-man!

Speaking of working out, "Dancing With the Stars" pro Mark Ballas told us he hits the gym every day between seasons -- and will be starting work on Season 9 of the show in two weeks. He was at the TCAs with his partner and last season's winner, Olympic Gold Medal-winning gymnast Shawn Johnson. She said, "It's going to be weird to see the new season." And, he said, "I'm going to be getting the death glare when I walk down the stairs with my new partner."

Shawn plans to be in the audience a lot. She's been traveling around, doing dance performances with Mark every so often, including a recent charity show in her home town of Des Moines. She says that by year's end, she'll decide whether to commit to going for the gold again in the 2112 Games.

There was plenty of talk about forthcoming projects at the TCAs -- with Emily Osment and Selena Gomez touting their soon-to-debut records ("All the Way Up" and "Falling Down" respectively), and Keke Palmer (gosh, she looked incredible in that black bodysuit with gold sequined epaulets) telling us she's "getting ready to start on my second album for Interscope Records."

Also on Keke's plate: the newly-launched "Shrink," "with Kevin Spacey and Robin Williams, which I'm so excited about and which is getting a lot of good reviews" -- and the second season of her "True Jackson" series. "That starts the 31st of this month."

Zac Efron told press he hangs his Teen Choice surfboards from the ceiling of his garage.

Daren Kagasoff said that three words that could describe him are "sensitive, caring and lovable." Aww.

Choice Parental Unit Billy Ray Cyrus recited all the activities of his performer children for the media in the press tent before going back into the Amphitheater to catch Miley's number -- then head out to his next concert gig in Scottsdale, Arizona. Like just about everyone at the TCAs, it seemed, he had somewhere else to go.
