Queens of the Six-Pack Set:
Pamela Anderson vs. Carmen Electra

by Steve Ryfle

The nineties were Pam Anderson's decade. Her face, and her ample attributes, were just about everywhere--on magazines, TV, pin-ups, even the occasional movie. Her beauty was big, bold and even a bit cartoonish, and she wore her surgical enhancements with pride. In short, she redefined the word "bombshell," and it seemed no one could challenge her reign...until she opted out of "Baywatch" for supposedly greener pastures. Along came Carmen Electra, equally glamorous and audacious. On camera and off, both women have turned heads and sometimes left us scratching our heads. They've had bizarre marriages, questionable career moves and nude layouts, but who's the queen of the ex-Baywatch babes?

 Carmen Electra

Vital Statistics:
   Real Name: Tara Leigh Patrick
   Birthplace: Cincinnati
   Birth date: April 20, 1972

Bombshell Cred: One of the premiere sex symbols of the 1990's, she parlayed her bleached-blonde, buxom-yet-muscular look into a legendary stint as lifeguard C.J. Parker on the syndicated TV smash "Baywatch" from 1992-97. Bombshell Cred: When Pam left "Baywatch," Carmen stepped in, did an admirable job on the lifeguard tower, playing Lani McKenzie during the 1998-99 season.
Beauty and the Beast: Her 1995 marriage to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee is the stuff of legend. Pam filed for divorce twice, but the couple continued an on-again, off-again relationship until they finally split in 2000, and she subsequently dropped the "Lee" suffix from her last name. Beauty and the Beast: Carmen, you always seemed like such a nice girl, so why did you marry that oddball Dennis Rodman, back in 1998? They separated after nine days, and Rodman said he "wasn't in the right state of mind." What an understatement.
Family: Daughter of Barry Anderson, a furnace repairman, and Carol Anderson, a waitress. She and Lee have joint custody of their two sons, Dylan Jagger Lee (b. 1997) and Brandon Thomas Lee (b. 1996) Family: Her father is a musician, and her late mother was a vocalist, leading to Carmen's early interest in a singing career.
Other Significant Others: Her taste in men ranges from rockers (she's dated Kid Rock, Bret Michaels) to male supermodels (Marcus Shenkenberg) to former child stars (Scott Baio). Other Significant Others: She's been linked to Prince, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit, and she became engaged to Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro in 2001.
Beginnings: At a Canadian pro football game in 1989, the Jumbotron caught a glimpse of Pam, wearing a Labatt's beer t-shirt, cheering. Labatt's hired her as their spokesmodel, which led to a photo spread in Playboy. Beginnings: After attending specialty schools for the performing arts, she went to Minneapolis as a teen and met Prince, who signed her to his record label in 1992. It was Prince who changed her name to Carmen Electra, but it didn't help sales of her album, which flopped.
Hugh Loves Ya, Baby: Pam has appeared on the cover of Playboy five times, more than any other Playmate.  Hugh Loves Ya, Baby: Carmen's best career move was posing for Playboy in 1996. The next year, MTV hired her as host of "Singled Out," replacing Jenny McCarthy, and she later became a national spokesmodel for Budweiser.
Busting Out: Pam came to Hollywood in the early 1990's, changed her appearance (big hairdos, big lips, breast implants) and broke into TV with a recurring role as Lisa, the Tool Time Girl, on "Home Improvement." Busting Out: She's known more for her physical assets than her talents, but as far as we know, those assets are real. In a recent issue of the Enquirer, Carmen is said to be considering breast reduction surgery. Perish the thought.
Master Thespian Moment: Ignoring her manager's advice, in 1996 Pam accepted the lead role in "Barb Wire," playing a super-heroine in a black leather bustier. The film was a flop, and Pam's movie career has never recovered. Master Thespian Moment: She may not be A-list star material, but Carmen's got a sense of humor about her image, which's she's used to good effect in numerous small roles in TV and film (she was the first victim in "Scary Movie," and makes an appearance in "Starsky and Hutch").
True Love: Anderson wed Tommy Lee after she'd known him for just four days. And instead of exchanging wedding rings, the couple opted to tattoo each other's name on their body parts. In 2002, Pam announced she had contracted Hepatitis C, a potentially fatal disease, possibly from sharing a tattoo needle with Lee. True Love: MTV filmed Electra and Navarro's November 2003 wedding and turned it into a short-lived reality show, "Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave."
Girl on Film: Fans got to see another side of her in 1998, when Pam and Tommy's X-rated honeymoon video was swiped from their home and distributed far and wide. Girl on Film: It's not exactly X-rated, but the true purpose of the "Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease" DVD is hardly to help you get in shape.
Current Activities: More film roles upcoming, including "Cloud Nine," in which Burt Reynolds coaches a female volleyball team made up of strippers. Our sources say Carmen and Burt became buddies, and prankster Carmen flashed her chest at him off-camera when he was trying to film a scene. Current Activities: Supposedly, Pam had retired from the limelight, but she's been basking in it. She just published a novel (co-authored by a ghost writer), titled "Star," a racy story of celebrity and sex that, she says, is loosely based on her own adventures (it features a revealing photo of Pam on the cover). She's been touting the tome on Letterman, Stern, and other shows.
Quotable: "I have this phobia: I don't like mirrors. And I don't watch myself on television. If anything comes on, I make them shut it off, or I leave the room." Quotable: "I was watching an HBO special the other night on real-life maximum-security-prison guys. I glanced up, and my poster was in quite a few cells. I was screaming 'Oh, no!'"
