"Babies are God's way of saying the world should go on." -- Luciana Bozan
Okay, it's questionable if one would want the world that some celebs have created for themselves this year to go on. However, that's not the fault of the beautiful bambinos that answered the cradle call in 2006.
It has been said that all the babies born in recent years are Crystal Children - they've come in with their Love energy intact. You can just look in their eyes and see they are Old Souls returned to show us the way. If that is the case, a baby boom is just what Hollywood needed - and a baby boom is what Hollywood got.
Of course, the biggest blast ended up being made by a wee one not even seen the first four months of her life, Miss Suri Cruise, born in April to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.
You'll recall Cruise had publicly berated Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressant drugs for postpartum depression when she and husband, Chris Henchy, had their first child, Rowan, a couple of years ago. In an almost cosmic joke, Cruise's baby girl was born on the same day in the same hospital as Grier, Brooke's second daughter. Hear that? That's the Universe laughing - out loud!
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie welcomed Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt in May and their little Colors of Benetton family - that includes adopted Zahara and Maddox -- have been stalked and plagued by paparazzi on every continent since. Hmmm, wonder what consequences that has on a baby's psyche?
Probably depends on whether your parents' heads and hearts are into you or the cameras and lifestyle. Britney Spears had her second child with hubby, Kevin "K-Fed" Federline in September, then promptly decided a few changes were in order...a haircut, a divorce, and back to the carefree, pants-free single life. Oops, I forgot I was a mother again! Wait, perhaps it's her clever ploy to keep her children safely out of the limelight -- by making us forget she has children!
Whatever the case may be, many other celebs wholeheartedly embraced parenthood this year, including:
Angela Bassett and hubby Courtney B. Vance, who welcomed daughter Bronwyn Golden and son Josiah Slater through a surrogate mother in January.
Ed Burns and model Christy Turlington also had a son, Finn, the same month.
Holly Hunter brought twins into the world with her husband, Gordon MacDonald.
February saw Joely Fisher and Christopher Duddy saying hello to baby girl, True Harlow.
And Jon Stewart has a new daily show to watch with wife Tracey, its called his daughter, Maggie Rose.
Tom Cavanaugh and wife, Maureen, also welcomed a baby girl, Alice Ann; while former "Arrested Development" regular Tony Hale and wife, Martel, brought in Loy Ann on the 24th of February.
Donald Trump and model, Melania Knauss, added another little heir to the Trump fortune, Barron William Trump.
And Mark Wahlberg added to his funky bunch with son, Michael, by wife Rhea Durman.
Drew Lachey's wife, Lea, gave birth to daughter Isabella Claire on the 23rd; and the next day Chris O'Donnell and Caroline Fentress welcomed their son, Finley.
In April, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin added Moses to their little family tree that already included Apple.
Celebrity May flowers included a baby boy, Leland, for Brendan Fraser and Afton Smith; a daughter, Sadie, for Adam Sandler and Jackie Titone; baby girl, Ava Lorenn for Mark-Paul Gosselaar and wife, Lisa.
And Gwen Stefani and hubby Gavin Rossdale produced their own little rocker, a son named Kingston James McGregor.
Rachel Weisz and director Darren Aronofsky welcomed Henry Chance Aronofsky on May 31.
Matt Damon and his wife, Luciana, had a daughter, Isabella, on June 10. His first child, her second.
Anna Nicole Smith gave birth to daughter Dannie Lynn just three days before the tragic death of her 20-yeear-old son, Daniel.
Other fall babies included: a daughter, Fiona Eve, to Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli; a baby girl, Ramona, for Maggie Gyllenhaal and fiancee, Peter Sarsgaard; and a boy, Riley Edward for Holly Marie Combs and her husband, David Donoho.
Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer also welcomed baby Jennifer in November; and Heidi Klum and Seal had their second child - her third -- Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, who follows closely on the heels of their nine-month-old baby girl.
Celebs who adopted this year include Meg Ryan, who added daughter Daisy True to her family, and Ewan MacGrego and Eve Mavrakis, who also adopted a daughter.
In another one of those truly sublime cosmic jokes, Shaquille O'Neal's wife, Shaunie, gave birth to their sixth child, Me'erah Sanaa in Miami back in May -- Get this! -- within minutes of former Lakers' teammate Kobe Bryant's wife, Vanessa, giving birth to Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant. The rivals' timing wasn't that good when they played on the same team, on the same court, in the same city!
Back to babies being God's way of saying the world should go on...
As crazy as it may seem to bring a child into the murky waters of the celebrity fish bowl surrounded by concentrated madness, there are an infinite number of celebs who welcomed their babies as the true gifts they are... People who were transformed in the twinkling of a newborn's eye, transported by the grasp of a strong tiny hand around a finger, and rapturously caught up in the butt-clenching joy only an Old Soul remembers.
And for those still unclear on the concept - be still and know that a little child will lead them.
