TOM CRUISE had extra reason to celebrate his 50th birthday on Tuesday (03Jul12) after he was named Hollywood's Best Paid Actor.

The movie star, who is still licking his wounds after wife Katie Holmes unexpectedly filed for divorce last week (28Jun12), learned he had been crowned Forbes magazine's box office king with estimated 2011-2012 earnings of $75 million as he returned to Los Angeles from Iceland, where he has been shooting a new movie, to celebrate his birthday.

Cruise beat out Leonardo DiCaprio and funnyman Adam Sandler for the honor - both movie stars tied for second place with identical $37 million fortunes, netted during the 12-month period between May, 2011 and May, 2012.

Dwayne Johnson, Ben Stiller, Sacha Baron Cohen, Johnny Depp, Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg also made the list and Twilight co-stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson shared 10th place.

The two young stars' Twilight castmate Kristen Stewart was named the Highest Paid Actress in a poll last month (Jun12).
