M.I.A banned from taking son out of U.S.
Rapper M.I.A. has been banned by a court from taking her son out of the U.S. after the child's father successfully applied for a restraining order.
The Paper Planes hitmaker split from her fiance, wealthy music mogul Benjamin Bronfman, last year (12) and the pair has since been involved in a child custody battle over their four-year-old son Ikhyd.
Bronfman filed documents at Kings County Court in New York after M.I.A. allegedly threatened to take their son back to her native London and the star was served with legal paperwork on Wednesday (13Mar13) which will prevent her from leaving the country with her son.
A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "M.I.A has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes to school there. Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining order preventing her from taking their son to the U.K. against his wishes."
The singer previously took to Twitter.com on Wednesday (13Mar13) to post a series of messages about the impending legal battle, suggesting her ex and his family were attempting to gain full custody of her son.
