Out of Town Romance

Q:I am a single guy living in a small town and have a problem meeting women. There are plenty of women in my small town who are single, but I'm not really interested in dating any of them. There are too many awkward connections regarding everyone knowing everyone's business, and I'm a pretty private person. My job as an electrician keeps me really busy, and when I'm not working, I'm exhausted from the schedule I have to keep. There are other towns within about an hour's drive from where I live, but what do I do when I get there? Seems kind of hopeless to just drive there and "hunt around." Not my style for sure. What do I do? --Andrew, 38

Dr. Anna: This might be the ideal situation to try out some new ways of meeting people. There are many dating sites that let you search by location. Have you considered making a profile and seeing what happens? Setting up a dating profile could also allow you to screen out people for potential unwanted connections. Chatting a bit beforehand and setting up dates in advance is a great way to help you spend your time in a way you know will be meaningful to you. Trying something new could feel a bit risky, but if you want a change your best bet is to just try something different.
