5 Losers to Avoid Online
By Laura Snyder
It’s hard enough sorting the dating duds from the dreams when you’re sitting across the table from them. But when all you’re staring at is your computer screen, deciphering emails and online profiles, it gets even trickier.
Here’s how to identify – and steer clear of – the online dating losers.
Who: The Married Guy
What His Photo Reveals: Very little. It’s fuzzy, out of focus, taken from a great distance, and leaves its subject pretty much unidentifiable.
What His Profile Says: He probably won’t come right out and admit that he’s married – but he’s equally vague about actually being single. Look for the key words “casual” and “discreet”.
Who: The Shallow Guy
What His Photo Reveals: Usually a good looking guy. Usually not really him.
What His Profile Says: He’ll spend a lot of time detailing exactly what he’s looking for – right down to the hair color, height, weight and dress size. Don’t expect to hear about his favorite books, movies or hobbies; character comes in a distant second to cup size with this guy.
Who: The Mystery Guy
What His Photo Reveals: What photo? If he posts one at all, it’s so artsy or abstract, you can’t figure out what he looks like at all.
What His Profile Says: Not much. He’s either too busy to fill out a simple questionnaire – he’ll get back to that later – or he’s using those annoying abbreviations (“u r” instead of “you are”). Do you really want to date someone too lazy to complete a sentence?
Who: The Bitter, Angry Guy
What His Photo Reveals: Looks normal. May have other women in the picture. ‘Cause he’s a sensitive guy.
What His Profile Says: He tries to come off as a sweet, gentle guy, but his profile rants about ex-girlfriends, blaming them for his single status. Will you be next?
Who: The Player
What His Photo Reveals: He’s next to a beautiful girl. Or cute children or pets.
What His Profile Says: Read it carefully. Lots of guys post pictures of them cuddling babies and puppies just to bait women. Does his profile indicate a family-kind of guy, or someone just out for a good time?
