Date with My Mechanic
The worst date that I ever had actually started out as a mercy date. The mechanic that I usually take my car to had asked me out. I must say that I was totally blind-sided by this, considering he was at least 20 years older than me and nowhere near my type. When he saw the look on my face, he started to go on about how it was okay, he's used to women turning him down, and that he doubted if he would go out with himself. I felt so bad, that I convinced myself that maybe I was being shallow and should give him a chance. Since my car was going to be in the shop for a couple of days and I didn't think it was a good idea to have him come to my place, we decided he should meet me at this restaurant. I had convinced a friend to come with me on the date (I still had some serious reservations) and her boyfriend dropped us off. We waited in the entrance of the restaurant for 4 hours (we couldn't get anyone on the phone to pick us up and we had no money for a cab). My date came sauntering in with out so much as an apology. My friend was ready to do some serious damage, but I convinced her that we still needed a ride home (since we still couldn't get anyone on the phone). My date said that he would take us home, but had promised a friend that he would stop by his party. So, off we went, with me knowing that this was a bad idea, my friend periodically kicking my seat to let me know she was pissed and my date blithely unknowing that the two girls in the car with him would have rather been at the dentist having teeth pulled than in a car with him. At the party, I had to suffer through being paraded around his friends like a show pony, amidst exclamations of, "She's with you?" and my date swaggering around like John Wayne. When I asked him for a drink (milk and Kehlua), what he gave me was so horrible I thought the milk had gone sour. My friend tasted it and told me that he had gotten me whiskey and milk! At this time, we were ready to go, so we walked out of the party and waited by the car. Some of my date's friends were hitting on us as he came up wondering what was wrong and getting mad because his friends were teasing him about not being able to keep a woman. I finally got through to my date that we were leaving, he agreed to drive us home, then asked us to wait while he found the host of the party to say goodbye. My friend insisted he leave his keys. We got into the car and turned it on. I had despaired of him ever taking us home, so I was trying to convince my friend that we should just take the car. I was going to call him in the morning to let him know where he could pick it up. Unfortunately, neither of us could drive a stick. While we were talking, my friend suddenly told me to get out of the car. I was surprised because we still couldn't get anyone on the phone. Then, she yelled for me to get out of the car. I turned around and saw that the car had caught on FIRE! There was smoke billowing out from under the hood. In shock, I turned back only to see that she had kicked the door open, shimmied out of the door and was yelling at me from the opposite side of the street. I stumbled out of the car, laughing hysterically about this being the worst date. Needless to say, after all the firemen, tow trucks and such, it was a kind cop who gave us a ride home and I changed mechanics the next day!
