The waters which sustain yon trees
May also break them limb from limb,
Mayhaps come as a raging flood,
Or mists upon hard Winter's freeze.
Thus, your love, which gave me strength
To face what dangers e're might await,
One bleak day was frozen, and at short length
Placed me in such dire straits
As few have ever seen.
Still, though I be broken thus, and slightly up
From that dark and reaching ground;
Still I pray those loving waters newly come,
Bye and bye, and round and round.
