The 9 Best Foods to Beat a Hangover

If you overindulged last night and are paying the price this morning, you may find a hangover cure in your refrigerator.

Modern Man magazine reports the first thing to do is to drink water. Lots of it. And stay away from coffee! It can actually intensify your hangover.

But certain foods can also ease your pain, and each of these comes with scientific properties that back up their claim as a hangover cure.

There's just one gotcha: They'll only work if you can eat them and not throw up.

1. Bananas
Packed with potassium and magnesium, which are electrolytes your body needs, bananas will help replace what you lost urinating after drinking too much.

2. Eggs
Eggs not only contain protein, which will boost serotonin levels and help improve your morning-after bad mood, but also they contain the amino acid cysteine, which helps the body rid itself of leftover toxins.

3. Ginger
Ginger has long been known to soothe upset tummies. Take it in pill form, mix it with tea or even eat gingerbread cookies.

4. Asparagus
The minerals, amino acids and vitamins in asparagus have been shown to ease hangover symptoms and protect the liver from the toxins found in alcohol.

5. Salmon
This cold water fish is packed with healthy omega-3 fats and vitamin B6, both of which can improve your mood and help relieve a headache and upset stomach.

6. Bacon
While you don't want to eat too much since it's so fatty, a small amount of bacon will help your hangover. The magic ingredient is amino acids, which will help replenish neurotransmitters in your brain.

7. Honey
Lick some honey off a spoon or drizzle it on toast. In addition to containing the electrolyte potassium, honey is packed with fructose, which will help your body metabolize the alcohol more quickly.

8. Chicken noodle soup
Mom was right. Chicken noodle soup is good for what ails you. It will help replenish the sodium and potassium you lost while boozing it up.

9. Oats
Call this the perfect food. In addition to being packed with B vitamins, magnesium, calcium and iron, oats help balance acid levels and absorb toxins.

Try this for your hangover: Make a bowl of oatmeal and top it with honey and bananas. Then sip a cup of tea laced with ginger.
