Affair With the Boss? 1 in 5 Women Say...

...they've either had an affair with their manager or have thought about it. That's the word from a Lifetime Women's Pulse Poll on the state of the workplace.

Specifically, 5 percent admit they have crossed that line and slept with the boss, while 12 percent have just thought about it but not acted on the impulse.

Fun facts to know and tell from this survey:

Just Call Me Mister Boss
Three times more women prefer to work for a man, with Bill Gates topping the list of ideal male bosses at 38 percent. But despite this preference for men, the No. 1 ideal boss is Oprah Winfrey with 58 percent of the vote.

Dump Your Purse on the Table, Please
What are the top "office crimes"? Nearly 40 percent play computer games at work with about a third pocketing office supplies for home use (37 percent). Other "crimes" include using work computers for personal e-mail or to tell politically incorrect jokes (31 percent), shopping online at work for personal goods (30 percent) or making personal long-distance phone calls from the office phone (28 percent). Just over 13 percent admitted to catnaps on the job, though they didn't specify whether they kept their office door open or closed for their little snooze.

Take This Job and Keep It
Even though a vast majority of women (81 percent) say they like their current job, a majority would keep a lousy job if the pay were great (62 percent) or if it came with great perks like free merchandise or travel (58 percent).

Evil Has Many Shapes
Though a surprising two-thirds of all women say they like their boss, nearly 40 percent would portray their boss as a villain in a movie. Happy to voice their distaste, one in five women would gladly pass along an unflattering rumor about their boss, but less than one in 10 would actually tell their fearless leader about it. Half insist they are smarter than their boss! And whatever their opinion, one in five say that work has ruined their love life, perhaps because half of the women said they'd answer their phone after hours if their boss called, even if they were in the middle of a "hot" date.

Younger Women Have More Fun
Interestingly enough, women in their 20s tended to behave more badly at work, with 61 percent playing computer games and nearly half shopping online or sending questionable jokes by e-mail. This generation gap also extended to office fashion, with 52 percent of 20-somethings (versus 38 percent of total sample) saying bare legs were acceptable and 45 percent (vs. 32 percent) thinking that a solid colored T-shirt is proper office attire. There was more generational unanimity on bare midriffs (2 percent vs. 1 percent) and miniskirts (3.5 percent vs. 3 percent) belonging outside company corridors.
