The angriest city in America is Detroit.
And while this is not a list any city wants to top, Detroit has good cause for anger, considering the financial ruin that has beset the Motor City and the ripple effect that has had on everything from jobs to housing and education to basic city services.
The list of angry cities was compiled by Men's Health magazine based on several criteria from various sources:
- number of aggravated assaults per capita (FBI);
- number of people with high blood pressure (CDC);
- amount of time spent in traffic during rush hour (Texas Transportation Institute);
- number of anger-management specialists per capita (American Psychological Association).
The top 10 angriest cities in America are:
1. Detroit, Michigan
2. Baltimore, Maryland
3. St. Petersburg, Florida
4. Las Vegas, Nevada
5. Newark, New Jersey
6. Charleston, West Virginia
7. Dallas, Texas
8. Houston, Texas
9. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
10. Miami, Florida
The top 10 least angry cities are:
1. Burlington, Vermont
2. Lincoln, Nebraska
3. Fargo, North Dakota
4. Colorado Springs, Colorado
5. Madison, Wisconsin
6. Salt Lake City, Utah
7. Cheyenne, Wyoming
8. Wichita, Kansas
9. Reno, Nevada
10. Anchorage, Alaska
What can you do to assuage the anger? Men's Health says sugar will do the trick. Drinking a sugary beverage or eating a candy bar will produce a spike in blood sugar that provides more energy to regulate anger. Just be careful. Eat too much sugar and your city could be on the top 10 list of fattest residents.
