For the second year in a row, professional football leads baseball by 2-to-1--30 percent vs. 15 percent--as the nation's favorite sport. We're going to have to start saying, "As American as apple pie and football." In 1985 when Harris Poll first surveyed Americans about their favorite sports, football and baseball were tied for first place. But in the intervening years, baseball has steadily fallen from our good graces as football has risen. America's favorite sports:
1 percent for each of the following: Track & field, horse racing, bowling, women's college basketball, and women's soccer. Registering less than one percent of the vote: Women's soccer and women's professional basketball. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We love football, basketball, and auto racing, but most Americans don't like women's golf and women's professional basketball. That's the word from the annual Harris Poll of 2,555 adults that ranks the nation's favorite sports.
